Slippage: The Caribbean In Flux | Workshop: From Dunce to Dance

Saturday 30 Nov 2024

As part of Slippage: The Caribbean in Flux, HardFood (DJ Collective) hosted a dynamic workshop exploring the cultural impact and evolving perception of Dancehall music.

Through discussion, music, and performance, the session examined Dancehall’s deep influence on sound, movement, and language—tracing its legacy and its role in shaping contemporary trends. The workshop also highlighted Camille Chedda’s work, reflecting on her critique of ‘Dunceness’ in modern Dancehall culture and its wider implications.

Alongside a guided tour of the exhibition, HardFood delivered a live performance, reinterpreting and distorting Dancehall sounds in ways that challenge conventional narratives and celebrate the genre’s fluidity.
